Calathea ornata - two sizes
Calathea ornata is easily recognised by its fascinating foliage, giving it the common name Pinstripe Calathea. The delicate, pink markings almost look like they've been painted on against the deep green. They belong to the prayer plant family. During the day you will notice the leaves moving according to the light. This species originates from South America rainforests, where it would be protected by the tree canopy.
Ornata likes bright, indirect light, but will also suit a shadier position. Keep your Calathea away from any direct sun. Being from tropical environments, Calatheas prefer a warm, humid position. During the active growing period allow at least the top inch of the medium to dry out. During winter you can push this to half way. Keep your Calathea away from any cold draughts and radiators.
All plants are sold in their nursery pots. Decorative pots are sold seperately. You can choose your pot by heading over to our Pot Collection.
We've styled the smaller Calathea (14cm nursery pot) with our medium black Bali pot. The larger specimen, in it's 17cm nursery pot, we've paired with our large bronze Bali pot. Do not pot directly into our decorative pots. It's much better to keep your plant in its nursery pot to allow adequate drainage.
