Ficus elastica 'robusta'

£24.50Price

Begin your plant addiction with the trusted Ficus elastica 'robusta'.  Elastica is the most common of the indoor Fig trees and comes in many different varieties. You will hear this plant go by many names Rubber Tree, or Rubber Plant depending where you live! Native to Southeastern Asia, this plant grows to a substatial height if given adequate care.

The Ficus elastica has large oval leaves that are a dark, glossy green. To keep them looking this shiny, regularly wipe the leaves. There are three stems to a pot, meaning your get a fuller more mature looking plant at a juvinille stage. Once the plant begins to mature, you may need to consider using a bamboo cane for support. If the plant tissue is broken in any way, the plant will weep a white sap. This is an irritant. Keep away from children and pets.

Elastica can show signs of stress when moved, but once given the right environment they will surprise you with how easy they are to grow. Give your elastica bright, indirect light.  They appreciate early morning or late afternoon sun, but should be sheltered from direct sun most of the day. Although from tropical regions they should suffice with average room humidity but be mindful of any crisping leaves. Water your elastica when the medium is feeling dry half way through. They do not like soggy medium.

What makes Elastica challenging to some can be the sudden leaf drop that can happen when the plant is stressed. Keep your Elastica away from any draughts, be mindful not to brush past it and try not to move your plant around unless absolutely necessary. They like to become established to a spot and left there. Over winter avoid any radiators and cold windows.

All plants are sold in their nursery pots. Decorative pots are sold seperately. You can choose your style pot from the drop down menu or head over to our Pot Collection. Do not pot directly into our decorative pots. It's much better for your plant to keep it in its nursery pot to allow adequate drainage.
