Howea forsteriana (aka Kentia Palm) is native to the lowland forests of Lord Howe Island in Australia. It has long been a staple houseplant in Europe, and was even kept by Queen Victoria. Howea is non-toxic, sturdy, and prefers a shadier position. This is a slow growing and long-lived houseplant. This elegant plant will brighten up any space and require a minimum of care.
To keep your Howea happy, give your palm a bright, indirect light to semi-shadied position. Do not place into deep shade, otherwise you will not see any new growth at all. They will prefer a more humid environment but can be grown in average room humidity, although this may cause some crispy edges to the fronds. Kentia palms like to dry out well between waterings. Allow at least half the medium to dry out regularly. When watering make sure you are thoroghly allowing the roots to absorb the water they need. Never allow your palm to sit in water, this will cause the plant to rot.
All plants are sold in their nursery pots. Decorative pots are sold seperately. You can choose your style pot from the drop down menu or head over to our Pot Collection.
Do not pot directly into our decorative pots. It's much better for your plant to keep it in its nursery pot to allow adequate drainage.
