Lepismium cruciforme XL
The Lepismium cruciforme is a very unsual specimen & can go by the common name Hurricane cactus. This jungle cactus can be found growing in subtropical & lowland forests of Argentina, Brazil & Paraguay. What makes the Cruciforme partically attractive is the fluffy appearance along the modified stems and when sun stress the stems change to a reddish hue.
Growing epiphytically you want to give your Lepismium bright, indirect light to semi shade. The more intense light the plant receives the more red the stems will appear. Be mindful that you're not giving your plant too much light as this can burn them. During the active growing season, jungle cacti are surprisingly thirsty. Allow at least up to half the medium to dry out. Over winter treat it more like a cactus and allow all of the medium to dry out.
If given the right conditions & care you Lepismium may surprise you with flowers. All along the side of the modified stems, where the areoles are (where the little tuffs of fine spines come out), small whiteish pink flower will appear during spring & early summer. To encourage blooming, keep the plant root bound. Lepismium are often misnamed as Rhipsalis.
All plants are sold in their nursery pots. Decorative pots are sold seperately - you can head over to our Pot Collection. Cruciforme in its 20cm nursery pot, fits our XL Bali pots, as well as our XL Almada Pot and our XL Raw Stone Pot.
Do not pot directly into our decorative pots. It's much better for your plant to keep it in its nursery pot to allow adequate drainage.
