The Maranta erythroneura is one of the most popular of the Prayer plant family. It has extremely attractive foliage, with the red veining and the magenta undertone which you notice more when the leaves are in their upright position. As a prayer plant you will notice that the leaves change position slightly throughout the day. This understory plant can be found growing low in the rainforest in Brazil. Due to its interesting growth habit, Maranta are best displayed as a trailing plant.
Give your Maranta bright, indirect light. It will also suit a shadier position, but will grow more slowly. Keep your Maranta away from any direct sun. Being from tropical environments, Maranta prefers a warm, humid position. During the active growing period allow at least an inch of the medium to dry out. During winter you can usually push this to half way. Keep away from any cold draughts and radiators.
All plants are sold in their nursery pots. Decorative pots are sold seperately. You can head over to our Pot Collection - Maranta in its 12cm nursery pot will fit in our xsmall Bali pots or our small jute hanging baskets. It also makes a great addition to our large Kanda pots.
Do not pot directly into our decorative pots. It's much better to keep your plant in its nursery pot to allow adequate drainage.
