Philodendron scandens 'micans'
Philodendron scandens 'micans' is a partically attractive houseplant due to the velvety leaves that have a natural iridescence. Micans appear change colour depending on the lighting. New growth comes through green, that matures to a dark green/burgandy hue with a purple, red undertone. The leaves are soft to the touch making this species extremely sought-after by houseplant enthusiasts.
This epiphytic tree vine, climber can be found growing natively to Central America and parts of the Caribbean. Allow your Philodendron 'micans' to trail or grow up a moss pole. The benefit of a moss pole, is that it mimicks the plant's natural habitat. In theory you will have a much faster growing plant and the leaves should grow bigger than if you were to allow it to trail.
Give your Micans bright, filtered light. The undertone to the leaves can be an indication that the plant would be growing in darker areas compared to other Philodendron scandens varieties. However, you should not keep your Philodendron in deep shade. They will definitely appreciate some humidity. Group with other plants or place in a well lit bathroom. As it's an epiphyte (growing on a tree) they like plenty of oxygen around their roots - allow half the medium to dry out on a regular basis.
All plants are sold in their nursery pots. Decorative pots are sold seperately. You can choose your style pot from the drop down menu or head over to our Pot Collection. Do not pot directly into our decorative pots. It's much better for your plant to keep it in its nursery pot to allow adequate drainage.
