Selenicereus chrysocardium
Selenicereus chrysocardium is more commonly known as Fern leaf cactus. This plant gets its common name from the flattened phylloclades* resembling a fern frond. This epiphytic (tree-dwelling) jungle cactus is a native to Mexico. Mature plants produce extravagantly large white flowers with a golden heart.
Grow your Selenicereus in bright light, but away from direct sunlight. Some morning sun is fine, but avoid midday or early afternoon sunshine. During its growing season, keep the medium evenly moist with regular waterings, and allow up to half the medium to dry out.
Over winter you can treat your Selenicereus like a succulent and water only when the compost is completely dry or when the plant shows signs that it's dehydrated. A common sign of underwatering this species is the stems beginning to pucker. Selenicereus do not like to be kept cold and wet during their dormancy as the roots can begin to rot.
*a phylloclade is a modified stem that acts like a leaf, usually in reference to jungle cacti.
All plants are sold in their nursery pots. Decorative pots are sold seperately - you can head over to our Pot Collection. Selenicereus in its 14cm nursery pot, will fit our medium Bali Pots, as well as our medium Almada Pot and our medium Raw Stone Pot.
Please do not pot directly into our decorative pots. It's much better for your plant to keep it in its nursery pot, this is to help with drainage.
