Selenicereus chrysocardium is more commonly known as Fern leaf cactus. This plant gets it's common name from the flattened phylloclades* resembling a fern frond. This epiphytic, jungle cactus is a native grower to Mexico and once it's hit it's maturity can stun with extravagant large, white flowers with a golden heart.
Grow your Selenicereus in a partial shaded position, away from any intense light. Although, this would grow fine with some morning sun, avoid long periods of intense light. Growing up in a tree, this plant likes to get a lot of oxygen to it's roots. During it's growing season keep the medium evenly moist with regular waterings, allow up to half the medium to dry out. Over winter you can treat your Selenicereus like a cactus & completely reduce watering, unless the plant is showing signs it's dehydrated. A common sign of underwatering this species is the phylloclades are beginning to pucker. Too much moisture in the root system and your Selenicereus will begin to rot. They do not like to be kept cold & wet during their dormancy.
*a phylloclade is a modified stem that acts like a leaf, usually in reference to jungle cacti.
All plants are sold in their nursery pots. Decorative pots are sold seperately, choose from the drop down menu or head over to our Pot Collection. Please do not pot directly into our decorative pots. It's much better for your plant to keep it in its nursery pot, this is to help with drainage.
