Stephania erecta in Terracotta
These unusal caudiciform plants are an interesting grower to have in your home. During it's active growing season (approx March to September) the plant produces beautiful vines of foliage. It may even reward you with small yellow flowers.
Originally from Thailand, these plants have adapted to store copiuos amounts of water and nutrients in it's 'bulb' (or caudex). This helps when the plant begins to regrow after it's winter dormancy. Whilst the Stephania is in it's winter rest, it will drop is foliage and revert back to it's caudiciform. Whilst they are in their winter rest refrain from watering to avoid any rotting.
Give your Stephania plenty of sunshine but it will also tolerate just bright light. Whilst it's in its growing season keep the soil slightly moist but still allowing the medium to dry out before watering again. Remember, they are storing nutrients in their caudex and can tolerate periods of drought. You want to avoid overwatering your plant.
We recommend the Stephania for houseplant enthusiasts that have experience in growing caudiciform species. Each Stephania erecta comes in their own terracotta pot with a saucer to catch any excess water. It also comes with a metal frame for the vines to grow on.
