Strelitzia nicolai is more commonly known as Bird of Paradise. These plants are from coastal forests of eastern South Africa and can take a lot of intense sunlight. Give your Strelitzia as much direct light you can. They can be grown in bright, indirect light but they will grow a lot slower. They would prefer a more humid spot but they will deal with average room humidity absolutely fine. Allow at least half the medium to dry out on a regular basis, during the summer heatwave you will be watering it a lot more frequently.
To get your Strelitzia to flower indoors will be a real acheivement and can be difficult to do in our homes. With ideal conditions (and a bit of luck) you will hopefully get flowers once the plant is mature enough, and also slightly root bound. But we think the foliage is beautiful enough on its own!
This one too small? Have you checked out our large Stelitzia nicolai?
All plants are sold in their nursery pots. Decorative pots are sold seperately. You can choose your style pot from the drop down menu or head over to our Pot Collection. Do not pot directly into our decorative pots. It's much better for your plant to keep it in its nursery pot to allow adequate drainage.
